B&B near Paestum

Ca' del Borgo is in Ogliastro Cilento, about 8 km and a 15-minute drive from the archaeological site of Paestum. It's a peaceful base for visiting the temples, the museum and the buffalo mozzarella farms of the plain, and coming back in the evening to a hill village with a pool and a view over the valley.
From here you can also reach Agropoli and the Cilento beaches in a few minutes: in a stay of a few days you can combine history, sea and good food without changing hotels. The three-day itinerary Francesco recommends: the temples of Paestum, Castellabate and Acciaroli.

What to see in Paestum
The temples of Paestum
Founded by the Greeks as Poseidonia, Paestum is home to three of the best-preserved Doric temples in the world: the Temple of Hera, known as the "Basilica", the oldest; the Temple of Neptune, the largest and most impressive; and the Temple of Athena, long known as the Temple of Ceres.
The archaeological area, enclosed by the ancient walls, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the Cilento National Park. Our tip is to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the light on the columns is at its best and it's cooler.
Important: where to park in Paestum
Unfortunately, cars left in the free parking areas around the temples are often broken into, with windows smashed to take bags, souvenirs or chargers. Only park in the private paid car parks outside the temple area, and don't leave anything visible in the car.
The museum
The Tomb of the Diver
A short walk from the temples, the National Archaeological Museum holds the finds from the city and the nearby sanctuaries. Its most famous piece is the Tomb of the Diver, a painted slab from the 5th century BC showing a young man diving into the sea: one of the very few examples of Greek painting to have survived.
Before your visit, check current opening times and tickets on the website of the Archaeological Park of Paestum and Velia.
Flavours
Paestum's buffalo mozzarella
The plain between Capaccio and Paestum is one of the homes of mozzarella di bufala campana DOP, the protected buffalo mozzarella of Campania. The farm we recommend is Tenuta Vannulo: in the morning it offers guided tours of the production, with a tasting at the end.
An idea for the day: temples and museum early in the morning, mozzarella for lunch and the pool in the afternoon.
What about the beach?
For the sea, Agropoli and Castellabate are better
We recommend Paestum for its temples and its mozzarella. For swimming, especially in July and August, we prefer to send our guests to Agropoli, Castellabate and Ogliastro Marina, where the water is more beautiful.
